  1. CMDR Owens opened a C. L. Elms Post 9951 regular meeting IAW the VFW ritual at 11:00 on this date in the Conference Room of JUSMAGTHAI located at 7 South Sathorn Road in Bangkok, Thailand.

  2. There was a roll call of officers and all were present or properly excused except for Surgeon Rhodes. There were 17 members attending and two guests.

  3. There were five applications for membership. James Granaha requested life membership while Gordon Graham, Frank Rathweg, Michael Nicholls and Bradley Wimer want to be annual members. Trustee Hudson moved we accept these applications, Comrade Nestle seconded and the motion carried. We then warmly welcome them into our Post.

  4. We gave copies of the minutes of the last meeting to those in attendance. Trustee Hudson made a motion to approve the minutes, subject to correction, and Chaplain Worsham seconded it. The motion carried.

  5. Quartermaster Neutzler gave the QM Report for the period 1 through 30 September 2007. Advocate Oden moved to approve the report, subject to audit. JVC Key seconded and the motion carried.

  6. There were no bills presented for collection.

  7. Service Officer Dyste gave the SO Report.

  8. We discussed at length the medical condition of Comrades Gaines and George and Trustee Vajo. We also noted that Comrade Barrett’s mother recently died and we held a short memorial service during the meeting to commemorate Comrade Stetz who passed away since our last meeting.

  9. Committee reports are: (a) Membership: Our goal for this year is 244. We now have 222 members for 90.98% (b) Bingo: There is nothing new. (c) Buddy Poppies: Comrade Arai has obtained permission to sell these items in the Embassy for one week in conjunction with Veterans’ Day. Advocate Oden agreed to get the Buddy Poppies and some advertising material to Comrade Arai for this purpose. (d) POW/MIA: Comrade Picha gave some thoughtful insights as to the current status of various initiatives. We also noted that the Post held a POW/MIA ceremony in the JUSMAG Compound on September 21. (e) Community Activities: Nothing new to report. (f) Independence Day: Nothing new.

  10. Remembrance of our National Home was at 11:45.

  11. Old Business (a) The next District V Meeting is in Pattaya on October 20 with a Cootie Scratch on the 19th. Trustee Nicholls is the Post Delegate. (b) Our Annual Christmas Party is on December 15 at the Tara Hotel on Soi 26, Sukhumvit Road. QM Neutzler has the lead in organizing the event and he gave a synopsis of preparations so far. Put this on your calendars. Tickets can be bought from the Commander, the QM or the RAO. The price is 1,000 baht each. (c) SVC Brose gave us an update on progress on the picture book. (d) We are still looking for a replacement for the SO as his age precludes him from being both the Post SO and the RAO. Please volunteer for this vital responsibility. (e) The current VFW9951 Post Commander Owens, Post Past Commander Oden, and Officer of the Day Picha paid a courtesy visit to the office of JUSMAG Chief, Col. Clark, on 11 Oct 07. During their visit Master Sergeant Ross, Security Manager for the JUSMAG Compound, was awarded a letter of Appreciation for his support of the VFW. (f) Post 9951 was inspected by Department before our monthly meeting. Comrade Larsen from Pattaya was the inspector. VFW Post 9951 passed our annual inspection. (G) Trustee Nicholls advised there are more donations to the Prostheses Fund on the way from his company. He agreed to set up a visit to the Hospital so we could make a donation and motioned that we give 20,000 baht. SVC Brose seconded this and the motion carried.

  12. New Business: (a) The QM explained that we had received our annual grant from National for our Life Members and this money will be reflected in next month’s QM Report. (b) We again discussed the need for a proactive Web Master. This is very important. (c) Since Trustee Vajo has health problems and has missed several meetings, we decided to replace him. QM Neutzler motioned that Comrade Nestle take the position of Trustee Three Year. Comrade Nestle accepted and the membership agreed. Comrade Nestle is now VFW Post9951 Trustee Three Year. (d) Advocate Oden told us that DPA wants to establish an annuity to fund grants to Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy participants. He stated this would be discussed at the next DPA C of A Meeting. As District Commander, he needs to establish our Post’s thoughts on this issue. Since it will be funded by Department and will not cost us anything, QM Neutzler motioned that we accept this proposal, Comrade McCarthy seconded it and the motion carried. (e) We decided to table a proposal by the CMDR that we hold additional social functions as a way to earn money for the Post. (f) A motion to change the December meeting date was defeated. (g) Advocate Oden, as the previous Post CMDR, and CMDR Owens presented certificates to the officers from Advocate Oden’s tenure as CMDR. (h) After changing to an open meeting forum, we asked the President of the women’s group, Mrs. Forrester, to tell us about their activities. She then gave us a very informative presentation.

  13. Good of the Order: (a) Comrade Picha won the post raffle of some cash and a coffee mug. He then generously donated the money back to the Post. (b) SO Dyste and others reminded us of the Days of Remembrance which will occur before our next meeting. (c) Advocate Oden gave us an update on Korat and Chiang Mai.

  14. CMDR Owens closed the meeting at 12:50 IAW the VFW ritual. The next regular meeting of C.L. Elms Post 9951 will be at 11:00 on November 10, 2007 in the JUSMAGTHAI conference room.
