1.CDR Oden
opened a C. L. Elms Post 9951 regular meeting IAW the VFW ritual at 11:10
on March 10, 2007 in the conference
room of JUSMAGTHAI located at 7 South Sathorn Road in
Bangkok, Thailand. The first order of business was that we held a
memorial service for Comrade Jim Schlosser who had died
the previous day and draped the Charter.
2.There was a roll call of officers and all were present or properly excused. There were 27 members attending.
3.There were no applications for membership.
4.We gave copies
of the minutes of the last meeting to those in attendance. Trustee Hudson
made a motion to approve
the minutes, subject to correction, and Advocate Owens
seconded it. The motion carried.
5.Quartermaster
Neutzler gave the QM Report for the period 1 through 28 February 2007.
SVC Nestle moved to approve the
report, subject to audit. Trustee Riopel seconded it
and the motion carried.
6.There were
three bills presented for collection. Comrade Picha requested 10,232 baht
as reimbursement for expenses
connected with the move to the new Post Home. CDR Oden
wanted 63 baht and Trustee Riopel asked for 240 baht. Both these charges
were for distribution of the
Post Newsletter. SVC Nestle motioned we approve these,
JVC Key seconded this and the motion carried. After the meeting, the QM
disbursed 2,000 baht of
previously authorized money to Comrade McCarthy for the
Post Home project.
7.Service Officer Dyste gave the SO Report.
8.There are
no Comrades in Distress, but we discussed the health issues of some Members
including the hip operation of Comrade
Holmes.
9.Committee
reports are: (a) Membership: Our goal for this year is 236. We currently
stand at 233 members for 98.73 %. These
are the same as the figures for last month. (b) Bingo:
Nothing received this period. (c) Buddy Poppies: There were no receipts.
(d) POW/MIA: Comrade Picha made some interesting comments. (e) Community
Activities: There is nothing to report on this topic.(f)Independence Day:
The venue for the festivities may shift to the embassy grounds this year.
The AMCHAM has resumed their traditional role as the leader for this initiative
replacing the ad hoc I-Day Committee.
10.Remembrance of our National Home was at 11:50.
11.Old Business:
(a) CDR Oden and Comrade Picha updated us on the move to the new Post Home
and we discussed this issue in
detail. (b) Last month we gave 30,000 baht to the KaotagrubPattanaSchool
in SakaeoProvince and 10,000 baht to the
Prostheses Foundation. (c) We sent a letter and a 1,000
baht check to the student the Post sponsored in the Voice of Democracy
Competition but the money was apparently lost in the mail. We will replace
the money and sent it to him again. (d) We are invited to the Thai Unknown
Warriors’ Convention on April 7. The CDR will provide more details as they
are available.
12.New Business:
(a) District V will host a luncheon on March 23 for some National Officers
SVC Lisicki and Director Wysong, who will visit Bangkok. The meal will
be at 12:30 on March 23 at the Amari Boulevard Hotel. (b) There will be
a District V Convention in Bangkok on April 21 and 22. The location and
other specifics are still undetermined. Advocate Owens, assisted by Trustee
Hudson, will make the necessary arrangements. (c) ANZAC Day will be April
25. Those planning to attend using the Post bus should advise the CDR.
The bus will leave from Washington Square at 7:00 a.m. (d) There is information
on the Department Website about the Department Convention in Angeles City,
Philippines. It is not too early to register. Everyone is encouraged to
sell advertising in the Convention Book since it is a revenue source for
our Post. (e) We held nominations for the next VFW Year. Those nominated
are as follows. CDR – Advocate Owens; SVC – SVC Nestle and Trustee Brose;
QM – QM Neutzler; Chaplain – Advocate Owens; Advocate – CDR Oden; Surgeon
– Surgeon Rhodes; Three Year Trustee – Comrade Evers, Comrade Vajo and
Comrade Shotwell. (f) The
meeting next month will be on April 7 at 9 a.m. This
change is made because of tentative conflict owing to Thai holidays.
13.Good of the Order: (a) Comrade Nicholls won the raffle of a baseball cap and some cash. (b) CDR Oden and SO Dyste noted the days of remembrance before our next meeting.
14.CDR Oden
closed the meeting at 12:45 IAW the VFW ritual. The next regular meeting
of C.L. Elms Post 9951 will be at 9:00
hours on April 7, 2007 in the JUSMAGTHAI conference room.
