CDR Owens opened a C. L. Elms Post 9951 regular meeting IAW the VFW ritual at 11:15 on August 9, 200 in the Conference Room of JUSMAGTHAI located at 7 South Sathorn Road in Bangkok, Thailand.
There was a roll call of officers and all were present or properly excused. There were 16 members attending.
There were no applications for Membership.
We gave copies of the minutes of the July meeting to those in attendance. Advocate Nestle made a motion to approve the minutes, subject to correction, and Comrade Hudson seconded it. The motion carried.
Due to resignation of Quartermaster there was no Quartermaster report for July.
There was bill from Commander Owens for VFW wreath at funeral of Comrade George Pipas Baht 560. Advocate Nestle made motion to pay the bill, seconded by SVC Brose. Motion carried.
Service Officer Harrison gave the SO Report. Director Dyste of RAO gave an RAO update on Medicare/Tricare for widows.
Comrade Sprague condition is deteriorating.
Committee reports are: (a) Membership: Our goal for this year is 244. We now stand at 261 members for106.9%. National will be releasing the member numbers next month (b) Bingo: There were no receipts. (c) Buddy Poppies: There were no receipts. (d) POW/MIA: Comrade Picha just returned from USA last night, no report. (e) Community Activities: JVC Key updated on funeral service for Comrade Pipas and members attending the AVWCT thank you luncheon at the Army Club on Friday, 08 August 2008. (f) Independence Day: There was no additional report. (g) Webmaster: Comrade Petersen updated on changes to webpage. Several links still keep failing, he will check with host if removing advertising will help reliability.
Remembrance of our National Home was at 11:45.
Old Business: (a) District 5 meeting in Udon Thani Saturday, 16 August, maximum attendance is urged. The Cooties will hold their scratch on Friday evening, 15 August, both functions at the Sri Chareon Grand Hotel. (b) Department C of A will be held in Barrio Barratta, Olongapo, Philippines 6-8 December 2008. Visit the department website for information.
New Business: (a) Election of a Post Quartermaster was held. A notice of the open position for QM which was posted on the website for all interested to step forward. Comrade Oden was nominated by Comrade Picha, with no other nominations; Comrade Oden was elected as Post Quartermaster. He was subsequently appointed as Post Adjutant. (b) Installation of the newly elected Quartermaster and the previously elected 2-year Trustee (Comrade Dyste) was conducted by Commander Owens. (c) Entertainment Chairman Trustee Hudson gave update on the Christmas Party. Along with the AVWCT they have contacted with the Tara Hotel to handle the party and the suggested date is Monday, 6 December 2008. The hotel has offered door prizes, but requested a deposit of Baht 10,000 to reserve the date. The QM will advance the money and we need a receipt from the hotel.
Good of the Order: (a) Comrade Cowperthwaite won the raffle of Baht 1,100 cash.
CDR Owens closed the meeting at 12:35 IAW the VFW ritual. The next regular meeting of C.L. Elms Post 9951 will be at 11:00 on September 13, 2008 in the JUSMAGTHAI conference room.
