1. CDR Oden opened the C.L. Elms Post 9951 regular monthly meeting IAW the VFW ritual at 11:20hrs on 10 July, 2010 in the Conference Room of JUSMAGTHAI located at 7 South Sathorn Road, Bangkok, Thailand.
2. There was a roll call of officers and all were present or properly excused: Surgeon Prenston Gale and Trusty 3 Year John Dyste were absent. There were 22 members attending. Charter was draped in memoriam for Comrade Johnson.
3. There was 1 application for annual membership to our post. After discussion QM Neutzler motioned that we approve the requests and JVC Brazee seconded, the motion carried. Membership welcomed Comrade Latini Robert Peter and he received the Cross of Malta pin.
4. Minutes of the previous meeting were distributed by the Commander to those in attendance. Advocate Burt Nestle and JVC Brazee noted correction to Delegation Letter to have their names added, Commander agreed and noted that Minutes to be amended to reflect orders. QM Neutzler made a motion to accept the minutes subject to correction and Chaplin Owens seconded it. The motion carried.
5. QM Neutzler delivered the Quartermaster’s Report for the period 1 to 30 June, 2010. Also, pointed out the bank statement does not necessarily reflect report due to outstanding checks for the month then pointed out the duties of the Trusties in their reviewing and signing the reports monthly. Comrade Riopel moved to approve the report subject to audit. Advocate Nestle seconded and the motion carried. QM Neutzler also presented the quarterly audit for April to June 2010 as prepared for the Trustees.
6. There were 2 bills presented for collection. Chaplin Owens (1) and Commander Oden (2) presented bills for (1) the purchase of Leroy Johnson funeral wreath and (2) a refund return to Food Land due to not placing an ad into the 2010 Convention book in the amount of (1) 650baht and (2) 1,200 baht for the total of 1,850 baht. Advocate Nestle motioned to approve and Comrade Key seconded, the motion carried.
7. Service Officer Harrison reports: [1] RAO Bruce Postel is looking for 6 volunteers to help working for the RAO this amount of volunteers will allow by regulation a RAO application process of certification. Volunteers are requested to work 3 days a week, a schedule to accommodate a desired time line can be developed, contact the RAO (this is not a paid position). [2] Medical procedure / payments etc… based on any deceases associated with Agent Orange is still pending with the Veterans Administration.
8. Comrades in distress: [1] John Dyste no word on his health or condition/s at this time. [2] Comrade Wendzonka still has leg problems with knee clots, stint in his bile duct and has cataracts.
9. Committee Reports: [a] Membership: [No Change] Goal 265 and we now stand at 273 members for 103.02%. [b] Bingo: Fred provided cash in 2,440 baht. [c] Buddy Poppies: 3,765 baht was donated during the ID4 activities. [d] POW/MIA: Comrade Picha was absent and no report was given. [e] Community Activities: there were 9 projects; 34 volunteers; 491 hours expended and 2520 miles driven. [f] Safety Report: Safety Officer Owens had nothing to report. [g] Independence Day: Commander praised Comrade Gary Thompson for a great job and his ability to pick up the ball and carry it at such a short notice with little information available. Comrade Thompson reports: All went well, great job to the JUSMAGTHAI cooks. AmCham is still going over the after actions to report the outcome at a later date. Comrade Thompson after action reports include items for improvements: the Post needs a Banner to drape in our area of operations in order to stand out; VFW needs to have items out to sale such as: hats, shirts, trinkets like the SFA Chapter III (coins, mugs and such). Other items of interest pointed out by the commander and members include location of the stage vs. food locations (not good), location of people during posting of the colors (not good) due to the location of the food and the bandstand. [h] Department Convention: Commander Oden and JVC Brazee was in attendance and the Commander reports the PI Convention turned out very well so much that the Mid-Term Convention with also be held in the PI although next year Convention will go back to Bangkok Thailand. This years Convention book was very thin with ads due to logistics and last minute change of venue due to Thailand’s situation. DPA (Commander Oden) Commander was installed. Other than that on the down side of the Convention 5 Comrades were hospitalized for food poisoning (eating fish) and 2 were mugged. [i] Cooties: Commander Oden reports and gives 3,941 baht over to the QM for income generated on raffle ticket sales.
10. Remembrance of our National Home was at 12:14hrs.
11. Old Business: [1] JVC Brazee will be next years Convention Chair person with 2 volunteers to help Adjutant Haugh volunteered to be one of the volunteers. [2] Pull tabs and collection of stamps are still needed, comrades should check with business about helping out for these types of donations. [3] http://www.bumrungrad.com Commander reports Bumrungrad hospitable provides a competent hearing test but does not fill out your claims form, you still must receive a Medical Certificate from a certified doctor to do this you must make an appointment with the Bumrungrad ENT clinic to see a doctor for a referral in order to get his Medical Certification there after.
12. New Business: [1] Recruiting is still a must new and creative method need to happen as well as for retaining members and convert them to Life Members ideas include: offer $50 discount for up to 6 members for Lifetime Membership vs. 1 free Lifetime Membership (“…this is cost effective” JVC Brazee comments) other side bar comments made. The actions to develop an incentive was given to SVC Brose’ to report on next meeting. [2] JVC wants comrades to report their volunteer activities to him via e-mail at: JVC9951@hotmail.com
13. For the Good of the Order: The Post raffle of 1,100 baht was won by: Commander Oden who donated 1,000 baht back to the Post general funds. [1] Honor Guard Team: TC - Adjutant Haugh, Trusty 3 Year Harrison, Chaplin Owens and Comrade Jay Stewart [2] Funeral Honor Team: TC Chaplin Owens, Adjutant Haugh, Trusty 3 Year Harrison and Comrade Jay Stewart we are needing more members to commit to these teams to insure we can render just Honors to our country and fallen comrades, inquire with the Team Commanders (TC).
14. CDR Oden closed the meeting at 12:30 IAW with the VFW ritual. The next regular meeting of C.L. Elms Post 9951 will be at 11:00 on 14 August, 2010 in the JUSMAGTHAI conference room.
